Altamora Etna Rosso 2022

Altamora Etna Rosso 2022

Alta Mora is a winery founded by the Cusumano family on the slopes of Sicily’s active volcano, Mount Etna. The name “Alta Mora” reflects both the lofty heights of the vineyards—planted up to 1,200m (4,000ft)—and the dark volcanic soils that define this terroir.

Made from 100% Nerello Mascalese, the indigenous red grape of Mount Etna, the 2022 vintage is sourced from four contrade: Solicchiata, Verzella, Guardiola, and Feudo di Mezzo. Vines grow on volcanic terraces at elevations between 600m and 800m. Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented with a 12-day maceration before malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. The wine matured in large-format oak, balancing freshness with structure.

Deep ruby in colour, this wine shows aromas of blackcurrant, red currant jelly, raspberry, and hints of mountain herbs, mocha, and cocoa. On the palate it is vibrant, elegant, and intense, with polished tannins and juicy acidity. Often compared to Nebbiolo or Pinot Noir, Alta Mora Etna Rosso 2022 is refined, complex, and distinctly expressive of Etna’s volcanic terroir.
