Bodegas Castano Molino Loco Monastrell
A pure Monastrell monster that is dark fruits, schist and smoke, meaty and violets. There is plush fruit, a silky feel and good length of flavour. They have purposely tamed some of the Monastrell tannin for this wine but it is still quite grippy and really needs a hunk of steak or similar to sit along side your glass. No need to age. Like a lot of wines from Yecla, this wine is crazy cheap for the quality!
For over 60 years the Castano family have been growing grapes in Yecla. Since 1980 they have also been making their own wines. They now have over 450 hectare devoted to native and international varieties. The most charming of their wines are made from Monastrell.
