Clos Saouma Les Amphoraes âBigoteâ Châteauneuf-Du-Pape Rouge 2019
Clos Saouma Les Amphoraes "Bigote" Châteauneuf-du-Pape Rouge 2019 is a rare single-vineyard expression from Mounir and Rotem Saouma, crafted to reveal the unique personality of the La Bigote terroir through amphora vinification and ageing. Produced with minimal intervention and without significant oak influence, the wine highlights purity, texture, and vineyard expression while reflecting the Saoumas' Burgundian-inspired approach to Rhône winemaking.
The outstanding 2019 vintage offers an intensely aromatic bouquet of black cherry, wild blackberry, raspberry preserve, violet, dried lavender, licorice, and Mediterranean herbs. The palate is rich and concentrated yet remarkably refined, with layers of ripe red and dark fruits supported by notes of black olive, spice, crushed stone, and savoury earth. Amphora ageing enhances the wine's transparency and textural finesse, allowing the fruit and terroir to remain at the forefront.
Despite the warmth and generosity of the vintage, the wine retains impressive freshness and balance, with fine-grained tannins and vibrant acidity carrying the wine through a long, mineral-driven finish. Notes of garrigue, exotic spice, and subtle floral nuances linger on the palate, adding complexity and elegance. Already highly expressive, the 2019 Bigote possesses the concentration and structure to evolve gracefully for another 10â15 years, developing additional layers of savoury complexity while maintaining its remarkable purity and energy.
