The vineyard is impossibly steep, reaching a 70% gradient, facing south and southwest. The grapes reach full maturity, often making some of Germany's most remarkable dry and sweet wines.
This version, made by Dr H. Thanisch Erben Thanisch, is a Grosses Gewachs, meaning it is dry. It is a little reticent but shows its nobility through minerality and a surprising amount of honeyed richness. Layers of candied lemon peel, baked apples, and stoned fruits are present and pulses with electricity.
