Jean-Marc SélÚque Solessence Rosé NV
Solessence RosĂ© comprises Chardonnay (45%), Meunier (40%) and Pinot noir (15%), and is based on a single vintage blended with 40% reserve wine. The addition of colour and texture comes from two different sources: 10% skin-contact Meunier and 5% Coteaux Champenois Rouge (still red wine) from Pinot noir, with all fruit sourced from seven villages across the CĂŽteaux Sud dâĂpernay (Pierry, Moussy, Ăpernay), the VallĂ©e de la Marne (Mardeuil, Dizy, Boursault) and the CĂŽte des Blancs (Vertus). The soils are mostly flinty clay on chalky subsoil, and vinification occurs predominantly in tank with 30% in oak barrels.
The current release is based on the 2020 vintage, and is aged for 2 years. Disgorged in October 2022, the dosage is set at 2 g/L.
Taste
The bouquet is just as captivating as the robeâglowing a deep and mesmerising coralâresplendent with aromas of roses in full bloom, bright stone fruit, tangerine, poached pear and raisin bread. Initially refreshing and brisk with dazzling streaks of chalky minerality, a laser-focussed acidity lifts the fruit out and upwards, deepening the mid-palate into flavours of red fruits, juicy watermelon, apricot, quince and lemon. Meunier and Coteaux Champenois Rouge lend a savoury, textural impression on the generous finish, culminating in a gastronomic and finessed experience that is sure to delight all tastebuds.
Glass match
Best enjoyed from the Lehmann G. Basset, Hommage 72 Ultralight machine-made glass.
Food match
Incredibly food friendly, enjoy with salmon sashimi; crisp and flaky traditional spanakopita; a hearty bowl of beef bourguignon served with roast potatoes; or a sliver of Comté to close a meal.
